Avoiding an Electronic Apocalypse / 5 November, 2011

Seven examples of films that deploy the use of haunted technology in their narratives. From Haunted lifts to home computers that can impregnate your wife, we seem to have an emerging transition of our paranormal fears into new or existing technology. Coincidently, all the possessed items. in the films, are everyday objects such as, the Television or the Mobile Phone. With our daily lives becoming more immersed in electronics and as items and functions become more computerised, there seems to be a parallel increase in reports of haunted technology, such as computers and TVs.

From top to bottom: The Lift (1983), Christine (1983), Ringu (1998), Maximum Overdrive (1986), Stay Alive (2006), One Missed Call (2004), Demon Seed (1977)

Operation Tideway is a proposal for a video game. Contained within a book, the proposal acts as a social critique of rapid urban development, cyphered through the lens of a spy thriller game play. The proposal contains detailed text, imagery and computer renders of the proposed game play. Volume 1 is located in Nine Elms Pier, Tideway Village, which is on the outskirts of Vauxhall on the river Thames. It takes all the real life elements of the location and pushes it through into the gameplay.

Volume 2, which will be focused around the financial crisis will take place in a location in Canada Water
